I have been living in LA for a month now. I have been getting some drum stuff back thanks to my good friends from back home. I got a internship at a Voice-Over Studio called Garden of Sound. Its pretty cool, really laid back. We do Voice-Over, ISDN, and Phone Patches.
Today we did a casting call from NYC to LA for a Citi Bank Commercial. About 40 Actors came in and out of the studio, I was assistant engineering and greeting them at the door making sure they have their scripts and breakdown sheets.
I sat down and I saw this guy.... I'm like shit.. this guy looks so familiar, looks the guy from Dawn of the Dead (remake) so I looked up his name and it was him!!! Jake Weber. Damn it was so weird and he was a cool guy very down to earth. I also met Stephen Macht. For those who don't know who he is he played The dad in The Monster Squad, I fucking loved that movie growing up in the 80's he was so awesome too we got our picture taken. Kevin Sorbo ( the guy who played Hercules from that TV show) was suppose to come in but canceled, and I met the one guy from the TV show True Blood.
After I got home i finished watching The Wrestler (great movie) and went out to dinner with Erica and Nick, what a great day.

Mogwai, being a rockstar.
I went to see Mogwai with my friend Jen Saturday night (9.19.08). What an amazing show, they are one of the best band i have seen in a long time. They had so much equipment it was insane. I really loved the way the one guy's guitar sounded i know he used an orange head, the clean tone just sounded amazing. And the bass player was incredible, he finger picks his bass everytime he hits a note your stomach feels it, the drummer didn't hit really hard but was really rock solid, they are just an amazing band.
Being a rockstar has it rewards and its downfalls. Lets do rewards first, i get to play a shit load of music, i am playing out more then i ever did with my last band. Even if I am not into all the stuff I am playing it is still fun for me. The downfalls is simple having a real job, I'm doing concrete work during the day and night time I am playing music, kinda like a superhero or something, batman comes to mind. Being a true rockstar isn't about having groupies, or getting drunk and popping pills, fucking strippers, cheating on your wifes/girlfriends, treating your roadies like pieces of garbage, having your instruments tuned for you, fuck that. That gives rockstars a bad name.
A real rockstar is putting everything you have in something and believing in yourself, put the music first and your life second and making sacrifices.
Yeah i fit that description alot better.

for the love of music
I recently quit my band The Bitter Life Typecast a couple months ago, since then I have been so busy playing music its great. I am playing with my good friend Matt and his brother in a band called Amerkulus, I am also playing with 2 of my other friends Chad and Toby in a folky indie pop band, I am playing with another old friend Jason (sheik) in a side project he is doing in the veins of Johnny Cash and early punk music, and I recently just joined The Piss Shivers again the 4th time.
This is a great opportunity for me to practice on recording and playing live more. Plus some of the music is really fucking amazing, my favorite is the Amerkulus project, its in the vein of Weezer and Black Sabbath. Matt is an amazing songwriter you can throw him 3 chords and he can create the best singing melody you have ever heard.
It really makes me sad that i have to move to CA and leave all my friends behind, but at the same time i know in the back of my mind I have to go out there, music is what i love, I have a degree in recording arts i need to do that out there, I am semi decent drummer I can do that out there too. I mean if it doesn't work we can always move back, but if I don't go I will always ask myself "what if"?
Some people ask what's the point of doing this if I'm only gonna be here for a little bit longer. Well I could waste my time doing nothing, but I have the chance to create some awesome music with awesome people. I think thats important. As for human beings I think we all are meant to do something with our lives. I really think music is what i have to do, who knows what will happen out in LA when i get there.
